Private equity backed H-D Advanced Manufacturing Company has acquired Sungear Inc. for an undisclosed amount.
San Diego-based Sungear manufactures precision components for aerospace suppliers, including gear assembly products for engine starters, and power units.
H-D is an owner of manufacturing business. The company also owns Overton Chicago Gear Corp., a manufacturer of gears and gearboxes, Innovative Mechanical Solutions, a manufacturer of bearings, and Leading Edge Heat Treating Services Ltd.
H-D was formed in 2012 by private equity firms the Riverside Co., Hicks Equity Partners and Weinberg Capital Group to acquire companies that manufacture parts.
Riverside, headquartered in New York and Cleveland, focuses on buying businesses that are valued at $250 million and has invested in more than 340 deals. The firm's most recent transactions include the purchase of Global Orthopaedic Technologies in June, and acquisition of Diversified Property Services in April.
Hicks, based in Dallas, is the private equity arm of Hicks Holdings LLC, the holding company for the Thomas Hicks family's assets. Hicks pioneered the 'buy and build' strategy. In January, a Hicks-backed company, Infinity Cross Border Acquisitions Corp., agreed to merge with Glori Energy.
