Private equity-backed Tacala LLC has acquired Austaco Ltd.

Austaco, headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., operates 80 Taco Bell restaurants in Austin, Waco, Texas, and other Texas markets. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

After the acquisition closes, Tacala will own and operate about 250 Taco Bell restaurants, making it the largest franchisee in the Taco Bell System, the company says in a statement.

Tacala is owned by private equity firm Altamont Capital Partners. Altamont, headquartered in Palo Alto, Calif., invests in middle market businesses. The firm picked up Tacala in December 2012, when it also picked up fast food chain operator Boom Foods. In July, Altamont bought two food brands – Richard’s Cajun Foods and Blue Ribbon.
