Avast Software BV has purchased Jumpshot for an undisclosed amount.

Austin, Texas-based Jumpshot develops technology to remove junk files, unnecessary toolbars and other files that slow down computers.

Avast, headquartered in Redwood City, Calif., makes antivirus software for PCs, Macs and Android devices. The buyer is backed by Boston private equity firm Summit Partners, which invested in Avast in 2010. The firm is also invested in Answers, Belkin International Inc. and Delphix Inc.

The deal follows several other software transactions. TA Associates, in September, made a majority investment in Arxan Technologies Inc., which provides software security services. Security software gtroup, F5 Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: FFIV), picked up Versafe Ltd. as a means of strengthening its web security services in September.
