Mednax Inc. (NYSE: MD) has continued an acquisition spree of physician groups with the purchase of Summit Anesthesia Associates PA.

Summit Anesthesia, headquartered in Summit, N.J., is a private group practice that includes 37 anesthesiologists and eight anesthetists. The group provides services at Overlook Medical Center, also located in Summit.

Summit Anesthesia is the second New Jersey practice to become part of Mednax’s American Anesthesiology division. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mednax’s anesthesiology division includes about 1,750 providers with 750 physicians and 1,000 anesthetists in Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. In October, the company built up its pediatrics practice with the acquisition of Dayton Newborn Care Specialists Inc. In July, Mednax bought neonatal physician group practice Sanjay P. Patel MD PA. In June, the company bought Anesthesia Group of Onondaga PC, and in May, bought Anesthesia Specialists of Houston LLP.
