Mednax Inc. (NYSE: MD) has acquired Neonatal Intensive Care Associates, a neonatal physician group practice in Texas.
The group will become part of Mednax’s “Pediatrix Medical Group” division, which focuses on neonatal, maternal-fetal medicine, pediatric cardiology and other pediatric specialties.
Neonatal Intensive was established in 1990, and has three neonatologists that provide services. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Mednax, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has made several acquisitions lately. In June, the company bought Anesthesia Group of Onondaga PC, a physician group practice in New York. In May, Mednax bought Anesthesia Specialists of Houston LLP, and in March, the firm bought three pediatric groups.
Mergers & Acquisitions expects to see more M&A in the physician group sector as the Affordable care Act continues to fuel interest.
