Mednax Inc. (NYSE: MD) has acquired Fredericksburg Anesthesia Associates Inc. to continue building up its anesthesia practice.
Fredericksburg, Va.-based Fredericksburg Anesthesia is a private practice physician group, and the third Virginia practice to join Mednax's anesthesia division. The company has 16 anesthesiologists that provide care at Mary Washington Hospital, Stafford Hospital and Fredericksburg Ambulatory Surgery Center.
Mednax, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has spent the past few years building up its anesthesia and neonatal divisions through acquisitions. The company's anesthesiology division now has more than 1,950 anesthesia providers, including more than 825 physicians and 1,125 anesthetists.
In March, Mednax acquired Piedmont Neonataology PC, adding to the neonatal division. Before that, in February, the company bought Great Lakes Anesthesia Associates PC to build up its anesthesia division.
