Mednax Inc. (NYSE: MD) has acquired Memac Associates PC as it continues to build up an anesthesiology physician group.

Memac, headquartered in Warren, Michigan, provides anesthesiology services to St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, St. John Medical Center-Macomb Township ambulatory surgery center and two Eastside Endoscopy Center locations. The company's subsidiary, Synergy Anesthesia, provides anesthesiology services to Synergy Spine & Orthopedic Surgery Center. Mednax is also buying Synergy as part of the deal.

The deal adds 10 anesthesiologists and 18 part-time anesthetists to Mednax. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Fort Lauderdale-based buyer has been scooping up anesthesiology and pediatric physician groups for the past few years. The company recently acquired a billing technology company called MedData Inc. Previous anesthesiology purchases have included Summit Anesthesia and Northern Westchester Anesthesia
