Mako Resources LLC paid $15 million for 15 percent of Oceanica Resources S de RL, a seafloor mineral exploration company.
Odyssey Marine Exploration Inc. (Nasdaq: OMEX) still owns 62.6 percent of Oceanica, after it sold the 15 percent stake to Mako.
Mako, an independent investment group, has the option to purchase an additional 15 million Oceanica shares at $2.50 per share before Dec. 31, which would give Odyssey an additional $37.5 million.
Odyssey explores shipwreck recovery opportunities and for underwater minerals. The company also provides contracting services, including deep-ocean expertise and equipment, to governments and companies.
