MakeMusic Inc. is buying Weezic, a music practice tool.

Paris-based Weezic provides accompaniment and assessment for student musicians. The company's web-based technology includes assessment and adaptive score following, which can still sync a score with a soloist when the musician skips measures.

MakeMusic, headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, develops interactive music learning software called SmartMusic. The deal gives the company a location in Paris from which to expand operations in Europe.

Weezic's products will be wound down over the next few months, as the company turns its focus to developing a web-based version of SmartMusic.

E-learning businesses have been attractive M&A targets over the past few years.  In February, Revelstoke Capital Partners closed a deal for Career Step LLC, an online training company for health care workers. Before that, in January, American Safety Council picked up Online Traffic School, which provides driver improvement courses. For more on the trend, see E-Training Services Entice Bidders
