LifePoint Hospitals (Nasdaq: LPNT) is buying the Bell Hospital, headquartered in Ishpeming, Mich., for an undisclosed amount.
Bell provides hospital services including pediatrics, obstetrics, urology, emergency medicine and radiology. The deal should give Bell more resources to expand services and invest in infrastructure. LifePoint will make $5 million in capital investments at Bell over the next decade, including in information technology, equipment and facility upgrades.
Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint operates about 60 hospitals.
The deal comes during a period of consolidation for hospitals in an attempt to create cost synergies and make sure they have enough physicians to meet the increased demand expected as a result of the Affordable Care Act. For more, see “ACA Reshuffles the Deck.”
