Landesk Software has acquired VMware’s (NYSE: VMW) Protect product group, which provides information technologies (IT) services.

The acquisition is expected to increase Landesk’s IT market presence through new channels and product lines. The deal will allow some of Landesk’s products to be available for download, says Stephen Daly, chief executive.

Landesk provides information technology software called Total User Management, which aims to simplify IT management.

The buyer is owned by private equity firm Thoma Bravo. This is the ninth add-on acquisition for the firm in the past year.

VMware, which develops virtualization and cloud infrastructure, acquired the Protect division when it bought Shavlik Technologies in 2011. The company bought Nicira Inc., a technology startup.
