The Laird Norton Co. is buying a majority stake in Fusion Education Group.

Fusion, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a 20-campus private education company that provides one-on-one instructional courses, tutoring and art production facilities for students in grades six through 12. The schools are in California, New York and New Jersey, and the company has plans to expand with two new schools in Texas. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Seattle-based Laird is a diversified holding company that also owns WHV Investment Management, Laird Norton Wealth Management.

Other recent education transactions include Security Innovation’s acquisition of Safelight, a firm that trains professionals in information security, and Kaplan’s purchase of Dev Bootcamp, a developer of learning tools for programmers.
