Kuraray (TSE: 3405) is buying DuPont’s (NYSE: DD) glass laminating and vinyls business for $543 million.

The unit, which is part of DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers, supplies products used for safety glass and architectural applications.

Tokyo-based Kuraray makes products that are used for LCD and detergent unit packing, food packaging, gasoline tanks and in cement.

The seller develops products and materials for the agriculture, plastics, automotive, energy and other sectors. DuPont, headquartered in Wilmington, Del., sold its DuPont Performance Coatings operations to the Carlyle Group (Nasdaq: CG) for $4.9 billion in August 2012.
