Knight Transportation Inc. (NYSE: KNX) has made an offer to acquire USA Truck Inc.  (Nasdaq: USAK) for $95 million, or $9 per share.

USA Truck’s stock closed at $6.37 on Sept. 25, before the deal was announced.

Van Buren, Ark.-based USA Truck provides truckload and freight transportation services.

As part of the deal, Knight would also pick up USA Truck’s $147 million in debt, bringing the deal’s value to $242 million.

Currently, Phoenix-based Knight owns about eight percent of USA Truck’s common stock.

Knight, which provides truckload transportation services in North America, expects the deal to increase its market share.

Evercore is acting as financial adviser to Knight, while Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson LLP is providing legal advice.

Other recent transportation deals include Roadrunner Transportation Systems Inc.’s (NYSE: RRTS) deal for some of Transport Corporation of America Inc.’s assets for $1.2 million, and EZE Trucking’s acquisition of Rig Runners Inc.
