Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. LP (NYSE: KKR) is buying the SBB/Telemach Group from Mid Europa Partners.

SBB/Telemach is a cable operator in southeast Europe that operates in Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Croatia, Montenegro and Macedonia. The company has about 1.7 million cable, satellite, broadband, and telephone customers.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This is KKR’s first direct investment in southeast Europe. The New York private equity firm is making the investment through an affiliated fund. KKR was founded in 1976 and led by Henry Kravis (pictured) and George Roberts. 

KKR recently made a $200 million investment for a majority stake in Weststar Aviation Services Sdn Bhd. Before that, the firm invested in Qingdao Haier for about $556 million.

Other recent cable deals include Time Warner Cable Inc.’s (NYSE: TWC) acquisition of DukeNet Communications LLC for $600 million, and WaveDivision Holdings’ purchase of Spectrum Networks
