J. Moore Partners LLC, a technology-focused investment bank, has opened up an office in London.

The announcement marks the San Francisco-based firm’s debut in Europe as part of a global expansion. At the helm of the new location is managing director Ben Powell, who is expected to advise J. Moore clients on deals and financing within the technology and education sectors.

Prior to joining J. Moore, Powell was at publishing firm Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) where he was responsible for corporate development. He came on board when the company did business as Riverdeep, and helped orchestrate the $3.4 billion acquisition of Harcourt Publishing Co.

Before that, Powell spent 10 years with KPMG LLP in London and San Francisco as a director advising corporate and private equity clients in mid-market M&A activities.

His appointment, along with J. Moore’s setting up a London shop, comes just three months after the bank opened an office in Washington DC with Kathryn Stewart as managing director.
