HanesBrands Inc. (NYSE: HBI) is buying intimate apparel group DBApparel from an affiliate of Sun European Partners LLP for €400 million (U.S. $544 million).

DBA, headquartered in Rueil-Malmaison, France, designs, manufactures and distributes branded intimate apparel for men and women, including the DIM, Playtex, Wonderbra and Shock Absorber brands.

Winston Salem, North Carolina-based Hanes owns the Playtex and Wonderbra brands, and acquired the Maidenform, Lilyette, Self Expressions and Sweet Nothings brands in October through a deal for Maidenform Brands Inc. 

Sun bought the company from the Sara Lee Corp. in 2006. Sun European is an investment firm that is headquartered in London. The group's affiliates have invested in more than 335 companies.

For other recent consumer goods deals include Samsonite LLC's deal to buy backpack company Gregory Mountain Products LLC for $85 million, and Palladin Consumer Retail Partners LLC's agreement to buy footwear company Aerosoles
