Middle-market private equity firm Graycliff Partners has invested an undisclosed amount in Installs Inc. LLC, a logistics service provider for setting up televisions, personal computers and home theaters.
Installs has provided electronic installation services for in-home, small office and commercial capabilities since 1993. The target’s "last-mile" services include washer and dryer setup and television wall-mounting to full onsite project management. Last mile refers to the last leg of the delivery process where a product reaches its final destination. For example, the target has previously worked with RFK Stadium, home of the Washington Redskins football team, to install 200 flat panel televisions and also installed nearly 1,300 flat panel units for the Norfolk Naval Barracks. Based in Buffalo, New York, Installs has established installation programs with consumer retail brands such as: Best Buy Co. Inc. (NYSE: BBY), Dell Inc. (Nasdaq: DELL), Direct TV, Sony Corp. (NYSE: SNE), Geek Squad, hhgregg Inc. (NYSE: HGG), National Basketball Association Inc., Major League Baseball Enterprises Inc., Staples Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS), Costco Wholesale Corp. (Nasdaq: COST), and National Football League Inc.
Graycliff, based in New York, is an independent investment firm that invests up to $25 million in middle market businesses. The PE firm has more than $1 billion in assets under management and typically focuses on the manufacturing, business services and distribution sectors. Recently, Graycliff rebranded itself in 2011 and recently invested in machine and sheet metal maker A-1 Machine Manufacturing Inc.
Logistics companies have become attractive targets as the e-commerce market continues to grow. Recent logistics deals include NFI acquiring United Express; Lineage Logistics LLC buying refrigerated warehouse giant Consolidated Distributed Corp.; American Fast Freight Inc. purchasing Global Transportation Services Inc.; Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: AAWW) buying air cargo company Southern Air Holdings Inc.; and C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc. agreeing to buy APC Logistics for $225 million.
