Boston, Massachusetts-based liquidation firm Gordon Brothers Group hired Jeffrey T. Lerner, a former president and founding partner of Great American Group Advisory & Valuation Services.

Lerner was also executive vice president at Hudson Capital Partners LLC, a retail liquidations competitor of Gordon Brothers. He joined Hudson Capital about a year ago, and left the Newton, Massachusetts-based firm in October.

In his new position at Gordon Brothers, Lerner will serve as chief business development officer of the firm’s asset appraisal and valuation unit. He will report to Thomas Scotti, president of the appraisals and valuations unit.

Gordon Brothers expects Lerner’s hire will further build out the firm’s outreach efforts to asset-based lenders and private equity sponsors.

In speaking with Mergers & Acquisitions, Lerner said the firm has established “a very significant commercial and industrial practice that can’t help but impact the area that I work in at the firm.” He noted that as more deals originate in private equity, he will become increasingly involved in completing valuations work for PE firms.

In November 2009, Gordon Brothers Group’s private equity affiliate GB Merchant Partners hired James C. Rhee, a founder of the retail-consumer, merchant bank FirePine Group and a vice president at J.W. Childs Associates. He was named a managing director at GB Merchant Partners.

Gordon Brothers Group was unable to be reached for comment as of press time Tuesday.
