Eutelsat Communications (Paris: ETL, NYSE Euronext Paris: ETL) has closed a $831 million deal for Satélites Mexicanos, SA de CV.

Satélites Mexicanos, headquartered in Juarez, Mexico, operates three satellites that cover 90 percent of the population of the Americas. The company has two satellites scheduled for launch in 2015.

The deal is being financed by the issuance of six-year unsecured bonds for €930 million ($1.28 billion), which were issued on Dec. 13.

Paris- based Eutelsat operates communications satellites, providing capacity on 34 satellites to broadcasting, television, video, data and Internet service clients.

The deal comes as recent reforms in Mexico's telecommunications sector aimed at increasing competition have opened up opportunities for foreign investors. For more, see "Right Moment for Mexico" and watch "Mexico: Latin America's Rising Star."
