Electro Scientific Industries Inc. (Nasdaq: ESIO) is buying the semiconductor systems business of GSI Group Inc. (Nasdaq: GSIG).

The Bedford, Mass.-based target provides products for laser marking and trimming of semiconductor wafers and circuits. The two companies have almost no product overlap, so Electro Scientific says the deal will expand its laser-based manufacturing services.

The buyer supplies manufacturing services to the micro technology industry.

Electro Scientific, headquartered in Portland, Ore., expects the deal to add $20 million to $30 million in annual revenue to its business. The deal is expected to close within 30 days. Terms were not disclosed.

In December, Diodes Inc. (Nasdaq: DIOD) announced it was buying BCD Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd., which makes analog semiconductor products. Also in December, Avnet Inc. (NYSE: AVT) announced it would purchase Universal Semiconductor Inc., a company that distributes semiconductor and electromechanical components.
