The Carlyle Group (Nasdaq: CG) has acquired Eci Software Solutions for an undisclosed amount.

Eci provides industry-specific business management and e-commerce software for office products, furniture, equipment, building materials, hardware, manufacturing, retail distribution and other businesses.

Carlyle's investment should allow Eci, which is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, to expand outside the U.S.

The firm invested from Carlyle U.S. Equity Opportunity Fund, which focuses on middle-market companies. The Washington D.C.-based firm has also recently invested in Tyco International Ltd.'s fire and security business, and sold Veyance Technologies Inc. to Continental AG.

Harris Williams & Co. was Eci's financial adviser, while Wilkie Farr & Gallagher LLP provided legal advice. PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP provided financial advice to Carlyle, while Latham & Watkins LLP acted as legal counsel.
