Private equity firm Bridgepoint has purchased a majority stake in Cambridge Education Group.
Cambridge Education provides pre-university education to students from more than 95 countries. The Cambridge, England-based group teaches more than 3,000 students in three countries.
London-based Bridgepoint is currently invested in Ansel Group, Energy Solutions Group and Infinitas Learning. In addition to education, the firm also invests in other sectors such as business services, consumer goods, financial services, health care, manufacturing and media.
Palamon Capital Partners sold the stake to Bridgepoint. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the deal should generate a return on investment of 14.6 times, a capital gain of $231 million and an internal rate of return (IRR) of 58 percent, according to Palamon.
This is Palamon’s sixth exit from its $908 million 2006 fund, Palamon European Equity II. The fund so far has generated $895 million in cash proceeds, 3.6 times return and 28 percent IRR.
