BioScrip Inc. is buying pharmacy service provider CarePoint Partners LLC for $223 million as a means to accelerate growth within its home care service.

Cincinnati-based CarePoint provides home and alternate-site infusion therapy and specialty pharmacy services for patients with chronic illnesses. The company serves more than 20,000 patients across nine states.

BioScrip, headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minn., also provides infusion and home care services across 29 states.

The company was sold by Chicago private equity firm Waud Capital Partners LLC. Waud, founded in 1993, usually invests between $20 million and $100 million in health care services, business services, government services, specialty distribution and manufacturing companies. The firm’s investments include Acadia Healthcare Co., Optimum Outcomes and True Partners Consulting.
