Aetna (NYSE: AET) has closed a deal for insurer InterGlobal.

The Surrey, England-based target provides international private medical insurance in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe, including coverage for expatriates. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Aetna, headquartered in Hartford, Conn., provides health benefits. The deal should help the company expand in new areas. The transaction was originally announced in November

Aetna's acquisition comes during a period of consolidation in the insurance industry, evidenced by acquisitions from USI Insurance Services, which closed a deal for Webb & Greer Insurance Agency Inc.in April, and Guardian Life Insurance Company of America's deal for Premier Access Insurance Co., also in April.
