Unity (NYSE: U), a platform for creating and operating real-time 3D content, has completed the acquisition of Weta Digital‘s tools, pipeline, technology, and engineering talent. The deal is worth $1.625 billion in a combination of cash and stock.

The deal is intended to empower game developers, artists and consumer creators with content creation tools used in film and television. Additionally, Weta brings 275 engineers who architect, build and maintain the Weta Digital tools pipeline.
