Plastics manufacturer Trinseo is acquiring specialty chemicals company Arkema S.A.‘s polymethyl methacrylates and activated methyl methacrylates (PMMA) businesses for an estimated $1.36 billion (€1.137 billion).

The PMMA business complements Trinseo’s existing offerings in the automotive, construction, healthcare and consumer electronics industries, according to a Trinseo news release. “This acquisition will be a catalyst for portfolio transformation toward becoming a higher margin, less cyclical solutions provider,” says Trinseo president and CEO Frank Bozich.

Kirkland & Ellis is advising Trinseo on the deal.
