Progress, a provider of application development and infrastructure software, has acquired MarkLogic, a data and semantic metadata management company and a portfolio company of Vector Capital, for $355 million.

MarkLogic looks to expand Progress’ capabilities further than structured data with a NoSQL (not only structured query language) database, informed search and semantic AI. It works to help users connect, create and consume contextual data and addresses use cases such as customer data challenges, large data volumes as well as multiple data sources and types.

“By expanding our data capabilities, our customers gain more agility as to how and where they can leverage their data,” says John Ainsworth, executive vice president, general manager, application and data platform, Progress. “At the same time, MarkLogic customers gain access to a global leader with a proven track record in the software infrastructure space.”
