PDFTron Systems Inc., a provider of digital content services for software developers, has purchased iText Group V, a global open-source PDF technology company. The transaction follows PDFTron’s strategic growth investment from Silversmith Capital Partners in 2019 and Thoma Bravo in 2021.

iText was created in 2000, was available commercially since 2008, and provides its flagship product, a software library, to create and manipulate PDF documents in Java and .NET. The deal will allow PDFTron to be a top technology provider for software developers and end-users for document processing services.

“We are thrilled to join forces with PDFTron to drive increased innovation enabling our customers to work more efficiently with documents in this increasingly digital world,” commented Gary Fry, CEO of iText. “As part of the PDFTron team, we will be able to better leverage the power of PDF by building on our open-source and enterprise solutions to further streamline the generation and consumption of documents and data.”

PDFTron was advised on the transaction by AGC Partners and Kirkland & Ellis LLP.
