Partners Group, a global private markets firm, has acquired AtNorth, a data center operator in Iceland.

AtNorth is a data center platform in the Nordics and is supplied entirely by renewable energy and utilizes local climate conditions and heat recovery systems to operate power efficiently. The firm serves 100 local and blue chip clients through its high performance compute, enterprise and blockchain segments.

The deal will transform AtNorth into a leading Nordic provider of sustainable and efficient data center services. Going forward, the firms plan to construct new sites, grow its client portfolio, build a connectivity ecosystem and institutionalizing processes. This marks Partners Group’s fourth digital infrastructure investment in 2021.

“This opportunity to build next generation infrastructure across the Nordics lies at the intersection of our Digitization and Decarbonization giga themes,” commented Esther Peiner, managing director of private infrastructure Europe at Partners Group. “Emerging technologies, such as machine learning, AI, and 5G, will likely drive exponential growth in the data center infrastructure required to power and run such applications…We have conviction in AtNorth’s growth potential and look forward to working with CEO Eyjólfur Magnús Kristinsson and deputy CEO Eva Guðbjörnsdóttiron our transformational value creation plan.”
