Glooko Inc., a digital health services provider has announced it has acquired xbird, a Berlin-based health AI company developing Just In Time Adaptive Intervention, or JITAI, technologies. Glooko, who specializes in remote patient monitoring for chronic conditions such as diabetes, plans to integrate xbird’s JITAI digital coaching software into its established platform.

Using AI and machine learning, xbird supports patients and their providers in managing diabetes by interpreting medical and behavioral data to identify health risks. It can then offer customized recommendations and behavioral changes to patients. Smartphones and wearables can record a user’s movements and analyze the data to create individualized profiles and personalized nudges to change a patient’s lifestyle decisions. Glooko plans to enable users of their platform globally to utilize these solutions to better manage their diabetes and related chronic conditions.

“Among the many JITAI companies in the digital health landscape, xbird clearly has a superior solution, and has built successful partnerships throughout diabetes device manufacturers and clinical institutions,”said Russ Johannesson, Glooko’s CEO. “The combination of Glooko’s established global footprint and xbird’s exciting JITAI capabilities will allow us to improve patient outcomes.”
