eBay Inc. (NASDAQ: EBAY), the global e-commerce provider connecting millions of buyers and sellers, has purchased Sneaker Con Digital‘s authentication business.

Sneaker Con was established in 2009 as a platform to buy, sell and trade footwear; the firm expanded into the authentication business in 2018 as a complement to its sneaker community services.

The deal is a continuation of the ongoing collaboration between the two firms which assists eBay in its product authentication platform, Authenticity Guarantee. The service offers full vetting and verification of sneakers bought on the marketplace with Sneaker Con’s industry experts. Over 1.55 million sneakers have been authenticated on eBay.

“We partnered with Sneaker Con to launch sneaker authentication on eBay last year because the team shared our passion for the category – with best-in-class capabilities to deliver what our customers want most,” said Jordan Sweetnam, general manager of eBay North America. “The response to our authentication offering has been overwhelming, and this acquisition allows us to continue to transform eBay and bring a higher level of trust and confidence to every transaction.”
