With travel and face-to-face meetings impossible over the last year, private equity fundraisers developed new ways to accomplish their goals. At Mergers & Acquisitions’ The Best in M&A Speak virtual event, where we announced the winners of the 2021 Top 10 Middle-Market Deals of the Year, private equity leaders discussed shifts in their approach to fundraising. Joy Savchenko, executive director of UBS Investment Bank, moderated the fundraising panel, which included Catharine Burkett, director of private investments at LCG Associates; John Fruehwirth, founder and managing partner at Rotunda Capital Partners; and Gordon Hargraves, senior partner, investor relations and strategy at NovaCap.
Panelists discussed the pros and cons of virtual fundraising and building business relationships, touching on everything from meeting with new and old LP’s over Zoom, to online work parties and whether or not to continue annual general meetings (AGM) virtually in a post-Covid industry environment.
