Mergers & Acquisitions names the 2023 Most Influential Women in Mid-Market M&A, including Churchill Asset Management’s Anne Philpott.

How did you further your firm’s ESG goals?
In 2022, I managed the launch of Nuveen’s inaugural diverse managers program, a $100 million platform focused on making commitments to minority or women-owned private equity firms in the U.S. Given my senior role at Churchill and the success of our program, I was [trusted] to devise the framework, work alongside the third-party advisor to develop a pipeline, oversee diligence and serve on the investment committee. To date, we have committed to three GPs with 15 additional funds in the pipeline.

As many diverse managers are first-time funds, and with less than two percent of capital allocated to minorities and women, Churchill has taken a key role in driving success in an area of the market that has been historically underserved.

How are you a champion of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)?
I am the co-head of Churchill’s DEI council, which was established to promote continuous action within the firm and utilizes diverse perspectives to develop innovative ideas and solutions. At the center of our mission are four pillars: leadership, education, accountability and development (LEAD).

We have formed a 10-member committee, with representation across all levels and areas of Churchill to focus on several key initiatives: defining diversity, enhanced recruiting efforts, and community outreach. Underpinning our internal collaboration, has been the complete support from our two executive co-sponsors that are both members of Churchill’s operating committee.
