Leif A. Dormsjo was appointed by Governor Martin O�Malley as Deputy Secretary of Planning and Project Management for the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) on June 12, 2013. With a $4.4 billion annual budget, MDOT is a 10,000-employee department comprising the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, the Port of Baltimore, the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, and an extensive mass transit and highway network.As Deputy Secretary of Planning and Project Management, Mr. Dormsjo is focused on using new and innovative ways to deliver a truly integrated transportation system for the State of Maryland. Key initiatives moving forward under his leadership include the next generation of transit projects (Corridor Cities Transitway, Purple Line and Red Line) and MDOT�s existing public-private partnership projects at the I-95 travel plazas and the Port of Baltimore. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Dormsjo was Acting Deputy Transportation Secretary since August 2012, serving as Chief Operating Officer for MDOT.He also was the Senior Advisor to the Maryland Transportation Secretary. In this role, he focused on advancing real estate, infrastructure and transit-oriented development (TOD) projects. Mr. Dormsjo served as the Secretary�s Chief of Staff from 2007 to 2010. He has significant experience in public-sector management, having served as the Chief of Staff for the Baltimore Department of Transportation as well as the Deputy Director of the CitiStat Program in the Baltimore Mayor�s Office.He received a bachelor�s degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. Mr. Dormsjo earned a master�s degree in public policy from Harvard Kennedy School of Government, with a concentration in transportation policy and urban affairs. During his graduate school study, he was selected to work with the Boston Public School System as a Rapport Public Service Fellow. Early in his career, he interned with United States Senator Bill Bradley.
