Salem Partners Establishes A&D Practice
At a time when government contracting-supported businesses have been targeted for acquisition, a West Coast shop bolsters its team.

Salem Partners, the Los Angeles-based boutique advisory service, established its aerospace and defense services platform with the hiring of industry pros Trevor Bohn and Sean Walker.
Bohn comes armed with more than 10 years A&D experience with Banc of America Securities LLC and McGladrey Capital Markets. Walker is a former US Naval Officer and, like Bohn, a McGladrey veteran. Joining them, from McGladrey, is associate Ryan Murphy.
Often, defense veterans from the military side are brought to the private sector to assist companies, private equity firms or advisors working for entities dependent on government contracts. Veritas Capital, a private equity firm, for example, counts homeland security experts and military veterans among its ranks. There has been some activity in the space, with smaller plays of government contractors being bought as of late.
In March, BAE Systems, the British defense company, bought Advanced Ceramics Research, which is responsible for producing unmanned aircraft for surveillance and tactical purposes.
CI Capital Partners, which, though an entity it partially owns called CoVant, used that platform’s A-T Solutions to buy Accelligence, a Virginia-based company that offers support services and solutions to the intelligence community. CI, and CoVant, anticipates more dealmaking in the near term.
Salem also offers wealth management services; the company’s advisory services extend to media, entertainment, life sciences and healthcare industries.
