The private equity firm brings in a veteran of the US government at a time when more PE firms are getting into federal services businesses.

Renato “Renny” DiPentima will join Providence Equity Partners as a senior advisor.
DiPentima brings to the private equity firm three decades of experience within the federal government. He worked within the Social Security Administration and also, later in his career, worked as president, chief executive and director of SRA International, a Virginia-based provider of technology and consulting services and solutions to clients in national security, civil government and global health.
DiPentima oversaw the company while private equity firm General Atlantic was an investor, perhaps providing him with intimate experience on how private equity and the public sector interact; SRA is now listed.
DiPentima will sit on the board of Altegrity Inc., which has already been acquired by Providence. This, likely, will not be his only role for the private equity investor.
Julie Richardson, a managing director with the PE firm, said Providence Equity Partners sees government information services as being “a highly attractive area of continued investment.”
He sat as chairman of the Federal Information Technology Acquisition improvement team and the President’s national performance review initiatives. DePentima also serves on the boards of Brocade Communication Systems and Capgemini Government Solutions. He sits on the advisory boards of Redhat Inc., Blue Delta Capital Partners and SE Solutions Inc.
Lately, private equity firms have launched a number of roll-up platforms for the government services and technology sector. GTCR, with the assistance of former ManTech CEO Robert Coleman, launched Six3 Systems, based in Virginia, to buy companies with federal sector deals.
