Peter Gonye, a co-leader within Spencer Stuart's private equity practice in North America was the keynote speaker. Panelists included M. AXA Private Equity, Baird, Patton Boggs

AXA announces new hire to oversee Beijing office, while Baird brings in new head of Japan; managing partner returns to Patton Boggs

AXA Private Equity — The private equity unit of French insurance company AXA SA selected managing director Jenhao Han (pictured) to oversee the firm's new office in Beijing. This is AXA's first venture in China. Han will be working alongside Won Ha, Jason Yao and Colin Wang, all of whom were previously based in AXA's Singapore office.


BNP Paribas SA — The firm hired Sameer Sopori as head of high-yield capital markets, Asia-Pacific. He will be based out of Singapore. Sopori was previously global head of the high-yield product group at Standard Chartered plc, and before that, held various leadership positions at Credit Suisse Group, UBS, and Morgan Stanley in London and Hong Kong.


Macquarie Capital — The firm named John Waller vice chairman. He is based in Chicago. Waller joined Macquarie as part of the firm's acquisition of Fox-Pitt Kelton Cochran Caronia Waller LLC, an investment bank focused on financial institutions. He was a co-founder of Cochran Caronia Waller, an investment bank focused on the insurance industry, until its merger with Fox-Pitt Kelton in 2007.


Patton Boggs LLP — The Washington D.C.-based law firm announced that Susan Bastress (pictured) will return as managing partner of Patton Boggs’ office in Doha, Qatar. Previously, she had been the firm’s managing partner at the Doha office from 2003 to 2006. Most recently, Bastress was at her practice Bastress & Associates LLC. Before that, she was a partner in the real estate practice at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP between 2008 and 2010.


Robert W. Baird & Co. — The Milwaukee asset management firm announced that Satoshi Matsumoto has joined the investment banking group as a managing director, overseeing mergers and acquisitions in Japan. He will be based in the firm’s Chicago office. Most recently, he was a managing director at Barclays Capital in Tokyo, where he headed Japanese consumer and retail investment banking.


Z Capital Partners LLC — The Lak Forest, Ill.-based private equity firm named William Monagle managing director. Previously, Monagle had served in a consultant capacity to Z Capital since early 2012. As managing director, he will be responsible for operational and accounting due diligence for portfolio companies, board representation of portfolio companies, and internal infrastructure. Prior to Z Capital, Monagle was a partner and senior strategist focusing on private markets for investment advisory firm NEPC.
