Fast Retailing Grabs Majority Stake in J Brand

Fast Retailing designs clothing under the Hlemut Lang, Theory and Uniqlo brands

Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. will acquire a majority stake in J Brand Holdings LLC, a Los Angeles fashion company known for its jeans, for an undisclosed amount.

Fast Retailing will acquire 80.1 percent of J Brand, while the target’s management will retain the rest.

The buyer is a retail holding company that designs, makes and sells clothing under the Helmut Lang, Comptoir des Contonniers, g.u., Princesse tam.tam, Theory and Uniqlo brands.

J Brand had sales of about $124 million for the fiscal year ended Dec. 2011.

The deal will allow Tokyo-based Fast Retailed to expand its U.S. presence.
