Continental Mills Purchases Sun Country Foods

The deal includes the Kretschmer Wheat Germ brand

Continental Mills Inc. has acquired Sun Country Foods Inc., including the Kretschmer Wheat Germ brand. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Norwood, Mass.-based Sun Country also owns a manufacturing facility in Manhattan, Kansas. The wheat germ comes in original toasted and honey crunch flavors.

Sun Country was formed by Brynwood VI in 2011 to acquire the brand as its second portfolio company. Brynwood Partners is a Greenwich, Conn.-based private equity firm. Its portfolio companies include Back to Nature Foods Co. LLC., Pearson Candy Co. and S. Walter Packaging Corp.

Continental Mills, based in Tukwila, Wash., manufactures and markets baking and beverage mixes.

Piper Jaffray acted as Continental’s financial adviser.
