The target, Ivona, makes the technology used on Amazon’s Kindle Fire e-reader

Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) has purchased Ivona Software, which develops text-to-speech technology.

Ivona makes technology that reads text aloud in different languages. It also serves as a voice guide with explore-by-touch features on Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablets. The company also delivers its services to other developers and businesses.

The target provides voice and language programs with 44 voices in 17 languages. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
