Southlake Equity Hires David Spuria
TPG Capitals former general counsel joined the Haas Wheat private equity spinout.
May 27, 2009
Southlake Equity Group, the private equity firm founded by two Haas Wheat executives, hired David Spuria, the general counsel of TPG Capital.
The Southlake, Texas-headquartered firm was formed in 2007 by Doug Wheat, a co-founder and former president of Haas Wheat; and Todd Robichaux, a managing director at the same firm.
In June 2008, Southlake Equity acquired PJ Trailers, a Sumner, Texas-based maker of heavy-duty, open utility trailers. The firm is reportedly attempting to raise $200 million for its first fund, which will invest in lower middle-market buys in the South Central U.S. that have an enterprise values from $20 million to $150 million.
Spuria joins the two co-founders as a partner and general counsel. He will also be working with Tom Keene, Carlyle Management Groups former executive vice president who joined in 2007. Before joining Fort Worth, Texas-based TPG Capital, Spuria operated as the general counsel at New York-based private equity firm Capital Z Partners.
Before moving to the in-house counsel at Capital Z Partners, he was an M&A partner at Weil, Gotshal and Manges.
Doug Wheat founded Haas Wheat in 1992 along with Robert Haas. Calls placed to Southlake Equity were not returned by press time.
