TSG Consumer Partners, a San Francisco private equity firm, said Monday that it has hired veteran consumer buyout executive John Kenney as a managing director and partner.
Kenney joined TSG's New York office from AEA Investors where he worked for the last 10 years. While at AEA, he served as co-head of the New York buyout group's consumer product and retail investment business. Kenney oversaw acquisitions of high profile consumer-oriented companies such as personal care products maker Burt's Bees.
Charles Esserman, president and chief executive of TSG, said Kenney's broad private equity background will complement the firm's capabilities.
Kenney will work alongside TSG managing director and partner Alex Panos, handling the firm's New York and East Coast deal origination activities. Panos will remain focused on the firm's national transaction sourcing efforts.
Before Kenney joined AEA, he served as a principal on the North American corporate investment team of Investcorp (Investcorp owns SourceMedia, the parent company of MAR).
The 17-year private equity executive has also had stints at Lazard's private equity group and worked on M&A and capital-raising assignments for the now-defunct Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.
