Still Searching for the Floor
January 13, 2009
The news in the real estate market over the past month would not exactly qualify as a fresh start to the New Year. There were bankruptcies (Tarragon), job cuts (HFF Inc.) and yet more deals that were put on hold (McClatchy's land sale), but through it all, there are signs that some deal pros are maintaining their optimism.
An industry survey, from The Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate, provides a glimmer of hope, forecasting that investors may start putting money back to work in the asset class. Of course, such a stance likely stems from the depressed values that can be found at the moment. But for a market still seeking a floor, any optimism would qualify as good news.
